Zoe likes to hold my hand
It was 10:30pm on a cool evening towards the end of July when I was driving home from a friend’s house in the country. Driving along and singing to one of my favorite bands I saw these bright green eyes reflect off my headlights on the side of the road. Passing by I saw this cat wandering in the shrubs. Of course, I had to stop. She was so close to the road I almost hit her which means someone else could or she could be startled and dart in the road.
So most people look at me crazy when I tell them I have pet rats. But I have come to find that these animals are amazing. They live in colonies with each other, which is why it is best to have two or more, and help each other out. Some rats are known to bring food to their sick friend or help them when they are in a bind. They truly love one another yet they also steal from each other to make sure they have what they want.
Abuse is scary…Really enjoyed this young adult read. Storyline starts out slowly but digs deep into Alex’s past with her mom and how is dealing with her mom’s death. Her relationship with Cole starts out smoothly but then takes a turn and he really shows his dark side. This book takes you on a journey with Alex as she has to choose between Cole and herself. You feel for Alex and understand how she doesn’t want to talk about what is happening to anyone.
I don’t think abuse is talked about enough with teenagers and especially if one is in an abusive relationship. I like how the author included references in the back of the book and answered questions on abuse and questions like how can I tell if myself or a friend is in an abusive relationship. She included numbers and websites for more information.
